About the role

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) invites applications for the post of Chief Statistician who will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau. The Chief Statistician will be responsible for decision-making on methods by which statistical data are collected, transmitted, processed and published. The role includes supervising the conduct of censuses through Provincial Census Commissioners, appraising the quality of national statistics, ensuring coordination with other statistical agencies and promoting analytical and research capacity within PBS. The appointment is for a term of five (05) years; the incumbent will cease to hold the post on completion of the term or upon attaining the age of sixty-five (65) years, whichever is earlier. Salary is offered on Special Professional Pay Scale-II.

Eligibility

• Qualifications: Masters or an advanced university degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a relevant subject such as Statistics or Economics from a university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

• Experience: Minimum 20 years' professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management position in organizations of significant size and importance.

• Skills and experience required include technical knowledge of statistics, experience managing large databases and national statistical surveys, compiling and analyzing National Income Accounts and economic statistics, demonstrated leadership and research record on social and economic issues, and experience in statistical data analysis and use of advanced computer software.

• Age limit: Maximum 60 years on the closing date of applications.

• Term: Five (05) years; eligible for re-appointment through a competitive process subject to performance.

• Those already in Government service should apply through proper channel.
