About the role

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) invites applications for the position of Chief Statistician, who will act as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau. The Chief Statistician will decide the manner in which data for statistical purposes are collected, transmitted, processed, compiled and published; supervise census operations through Provincial Census Commissioners; appraise the quality of national statistics; ensure coordination with other statistical agencies; promote analytical and research capacity; prepare annual and five-year work plans and budgets; and develop national statistical standards conforming to international concepts and definitions.

Eligibility

• Qualifications: Masters or an advanced university degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a relevant subject such as Statistics or Economics, preferably from a leading international university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

• Experience and skills: Minimum 20 years' experience with at least 5 years in a senior management position in organizations of significant size and importance. Experience managing large databases and national statistical surveys; compiling and analyzing National Income Accounts and Economic Statistics. Proven leadership and research record on national and international social and economic issues. Knowledge and experience of analyzing computer-based data and use of advanced computer software for statistical analysis.

• Age: Maximum 60 years on the closing date of applications. The individual will cease to hold the post on completion of the term or on attaining the age of sixty-five (65) years, whichever is earlier.
