About the role

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) invites applications for the post of Chief Statistician, who will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau. The Chief Statistician will lead the national statistical system, supervise censuses through Provincial Census Commissioners, appraise the quality of national statistics, promote and maintain analytical and research capacity within the Bureau, prepare annual and five-year work plans and budgets, develop national statistical standards in line with international norms, and ensure coordination with other statistical agencies and government departments.

• Salary: Special Professional Pay Scale-II

• Term of appointment: five (05) years, with eligibility for re-appointment through a competitive process subject to satisfactory performance.

Eligibility

• Qualifications: Masters or an advanced university degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a relevant subject such as Statistics or Economics, preferably from a leading international university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

• Experience: Minimum 20 years' professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management position in organizations of significant size and importance. Experience in managing large databases, national statistical surveys, compiling and analyzing National Income Accounts and economic statistics is required. Proven leadership and research record on national and international social and economic issues, and knowledge of advanced computer-based data analysis and statistical software are required.

• Age: Maximum 60 years on the closing date of applications. The individual will cease to hold the post on completion of the term or upon attaining the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
