Chief Statistician (Chief Executive Officer)

About the role

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) invites applications for the post of Chief Statistician who shall also serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau. The Chief Statistician will lead the Bureau's work on collection, compilation and dissemination of national statistical information, supervise national censuses through Provincial Census Commissioners, appraise the quality of statistics at national level, ensure coordination with other statistical agencies, and develop analytical and research capacity within the Bureau. The post carries the Special Professional Pay Scale-II. The term of appointment is five (05) years, and re-appointment is possible through a competitive process subject to satisfactory performance.

Eligibility

• Qualifications: Master's or an advanced university degree, preferably Ph.D., in a relevant subject such as Statistics or Economics. Preference for degrees from leading international universities recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

• Experience: Minimum 20 years' professional experience with at least 5 years in a senior management position in organizations of significant size and importance. Experience managing large databases, national statistical surveys, compiling and analysing National Income Accounts, economic statistics and related areas is required.

• Skills: Demonstrated technical knowledge of statistics, national and international economic and management skills, proven leadership and research record on national and international social and economic issues, and experience with computer-based data analysis and advanced statistical software.

• Age: Maximum 60 years on the closing date of applications. The individual will cease to hold the post on completion of term or upon attaining the age of sixty-five (65) years, whichever is earlier.

• Additional conditions: Those already in Government service should apply through proper channel.
